Without resorting to documentary drama or visual reconstruction, Mozart’s research follows the lives of composers through his music and his extensive correspondence. From K1a to K626 (Requiem), more than 80 works are presented in chronological order and reveal striking parallels between the music and Mozart’s own experience. The music, which occupies the central stage, is surrounded by a motor block of Mozart’s life. With careful analysis by musicologists and experts such as Jonathan Miller, Cliff Eisen, Nicholas Till, Bayan Northcott and the late Stanley Saddy, a striking new impression of the composer appears. He drives away common myths about genius, health, relationships, death and the character of Mozart to present a new image that is very different from Milos Formans Amadeus.
Reported by Juliet Stevenson and Mozart, voiced by Samuel West, the film contains interviews and performances with more than 70 of Mozart’s largest music exponents, including: Christoph Russet, Sir Roger Norrington, Ren Jacobs, Sir Charles Mackenras, Rene Fleming, Ian Bostridge , Gerald Finley, Sir Thomas Allen, Imogen Cooper, Pierre Laurent Aimard, Leif Ove Andnes, Lang Lang and Camp Quartet.
